Deregistering from Exams

Within the deregistration deadlines, you can deregister from any exam by going to the Exams application in RWTHonline and choosing the My exam dates tab. You will find detailed instructions on how to deregister in the RWTHonline documentation portal.

Exams without an exam date (so-called PTNV) are mostly individually agreed exams. It is often not possible for students to deregister from these on their own. In such cases, please follow the instructions of the chair or department offering the exam.

Students cannot deregister from final theses on their own via RWTHonline. Separate regulations apply here, which you can find in the overarching examination regulations.

Deregistration Deadlines

There are uniform deadlines throughout the university for deregistering from an exam without giving specific reasons. As a rule, you can deregister via RWTHonline until up to three working days before an exam. Saturdays are considered working days. This does not apply to final theses. Separate regulations apply here, which you can find in the overarching examination regulations.

Examples:

  • Example 1: Your exam takes place on a Thursday. You can cancel your registration until Monday 11:59pm (one minute to midnight) if there is no public holiday in between.
  • Example 2: Your exam is on a Wednesday. You can deregister until Saturday 11:59pm (one minute to midnight) if there is no holiday in between.
  • Example 3: Your exam takes place on a Friday. The Thursday before is a holiday. You can deregister until Monday 11:59pm (one minute to midnight).

In all Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs, you can deregister from an exam (and, if necessary, register again) as often as you wish.

FAQ

I was automatically deregistered from an exam because I do not meet the requirements. What can I do?

It is correct that the system has deregistered you from the exam if you do not meet the requirements. In this case, you must complete the necessary modules or module components before you can take the exam. However, if you think this is an error, please contact the relevant chair or department.

I have deregistered from an exam but would now like to take it. Can I register again?

If the registration window is still open, you can register for the exam again without any problems. However, if the registration deadline has already passed at this point, you will only be able to re-register for the exam with the approval of the examination board. Please contact them.
