FIR Moves Into New Building on RWTH Aachen Campus
On Monday, October 28, 2013, the Institute for Industrial Management, FIR for short, has moved into its new office building, centrally located at the campus boulevard on the university’s new research campus. After 60 years of research and industrial services offered from its office center in the heart of the city, the Institute will now continue its activities in the Logistics Cluster on RWTH Aachen Campus.
FIR Managing Director and Head of the Logistics Cluster at the new RWTH Aachen Campus, Professor Volker Stich, is looking forward to working in the new environment: “In our new ‘home’ we will benefit from a modern infrastructure, expand our facilities and services, closely collaborate with our enrolled partners in the RWTH Aachen Logistics Cluster, and open up new topics for investigation.”
The RWTH Aachen Campus Logistics Cluster
The Logistics Cluster investigates complex value creation chains from an integral perspective, geared to a completely new form of intensive, on-the-spot cooperation between research and industry. According to the definition of the cluster, “logistics” includes all element in a global network – from the flow of material and information between companies through to the flow of material and information between individual workplaces in a production area.
The heart of the logistics cluster is the Enterprise Integration Center (EICe). It consists of innovation labs and a real-life production line on which marketable products will be manufactured. The purpose of the production environment is the installation and operation of a demonstration factory and an integrated training center.
