Efficient Energy Storage Technologies
“We are delighted by the Helmholtz Association’s decision to establish the new Helmholtz Institute in Münster with a focus on ‘Ionics in Energy Storage,’" said Professor Dirk Uwe Sauer from the Institute for Power Electronics and Electrical Drives, ISEA for short. Two RWTH research areas are involved in the project, and it is planned to extend these areas by establishing a new professorship and a team of early career researchers.
The new professorship in “Battery Aging“ will be established at ISEA. Furthermore, a new junior research group, led by Professor Manfred Martin and Dr. Michael Schroeder from the Institute of Physical Chemistry, will be concerned with the development of solid-state electrolytes for batteries. Professor Sauer will be responsible for the implementation of the new battery concepts in real-world applications.
The newly established Helmholtz Institute will further enhance the strategic collaboration in the field of battery research between Forschungszentrum Jülich, the University of Münster, and RWTH Aachen. For many years now, new competencies have been developed within this collaboration, combining the respective strengths and key research areas of the contributing institutions in a fruitful way.
The Helmholtz Institute Münster, HI MS for short, will also strengthen the JARA collaboration between Forschungszentrukm Jülich and RWTH Aachen.
