The M.Sc. in Textile Engineering at the RWTH Aachen University offers an interdisciplinary curriculum drawing on diverse science and engineering principles.
The program provides knowledge on the latest development in textile technology in a wide range of subjects covering high-performance fibres, 3D-textiles and new processes and machines to manufacture textile products.
The Textile Engineering students develop a unique background, which allows them to pursue applied research, summer intern experiences, and design projects ranging from innovative production technologies to the design of novel high performance fibres for automotive and aviation industry. The program offers small class sizes with personal attention from faculty.
This Master’s degree course is highlighted through its internationality, its focus on interdisciplinarity and its training of highly-qualified young professionals, combines teaching, project and research results by putting these directly into practice. This will be effected by means of research- and practice-based master theses, which are developed from laboratory work or direct involvement in research projects.
The four semester long course of study is broken down into two pieces. At first, students complete the mandatory modules, which are all taught in English, as well as a number of elective modules, some of which are taught in English while others are taught in German.
In the second part of the program, students independently work on a defined research topic, finish their master thesis, and complete any remaining elective modules.
The curriculum is supplemented by combinations with other subjects or specializations according to the individual student's interest profile.
For example, the following specializations are on offer:
- Textile Engineering
- Factory Planning
- Innovation Management
- Technical Textiles
- Synthetic Fibres
- Models and Simulation in Textile Engineering
A prerequisite for starting this course of studies is a first university degree with which the necessary background education can be proven as determined in the examination regulations.
The examination board determines whether the applicant fulfills the entrance requirements.
After successfully completing the Master’s program in textile engineering at the RWTH Aachen University, graduates will work in the field of constructing textile machinery as well as developing processes and operations for the production of textiles of any kind.
Graduates are able to successfully work in integrative and interdisciplinary topic areas. Furthermore, it is possible for students to apply for doctoral studies at one of the chairs in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
Exam regulations regulate academic goals and prerequisites, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains the description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.
The Master's course of study in Textile Engineering is offered by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
For Your Information
