Program Description

The M.Sc. in Textile Engineering (M.Sc. Textile) is a unique interdisciplinary program, providing knowledge in the latest developments in textile technology such as high-performance fibers, medical smart textiles and implants or biomaterials and tailored reinforced fabric structures. Students will become experts in man-made fiber technology and textile fabrics production and master spinning, weaving, knitting/warp knitting and braiding. At the same time they also gain in-depth knowledge of scientific work, which can be used for the industry or a further academic career. The program particularly befits from small class sizes with close individual contact and support from lecturers and researchers.

Degree Content

The M.Sc. Textile Engineering is a full-time study program on campus in Aachen, leading to a M.Sc. degree to be awarded from RWTH Aachen University. The program offers two study tracks to specialize in:

  1. Coursework Track
  2. Research Track

Students complete all compulsory modules taught in English, as well as several elective modules, which are also taught in German in the first part of the program. Followed the second part, where students will independently work on a defined research topic, finish their master thesis, and complete an industrial internship. For more detailed program information visit RWTH International Academy, the course of study website.

Career Prospects

After successfully completing the Master’s program in Textile engineering, graduates will be specialized engineers in textile technology who can design and develop new textile materials and manufacture them with new machines and processes and thus be able to work as Product Developer or Project Manager. Graduates are highly qualified experts set to work in the industries such as automotive, aeronautics, construction, healthcare, and energy and environment where of innovative and marketable textile structures and fibers are becoming increasingly important.

After being awarded the RWTH Aachen University Master's Degree, graduates will be qualified for doctoral studies at one of the chairs in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

Examination Regulations

Regulations that apply for all Bachelor and Master courses of study as well as detailed information about the necessary documentation of required language skills can be found in RWTH’s General Examination Regulations.

Subject-Specific Examination Regulations regulate academic goals, the course of study layout, and exam procedures. The appendix to the regulations contains a description of the modules, from which the course of study is composed.

Some regulations have been translated or are currently being translated into English. Please note, however, that examination regulations are officially published in German and this is the only legally binding version!

The Master of Science in Textile Engineering is led by one of the largest institutes at RWTH Aachen University, the Institut für Textiltechnik, at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

For Your Information

RWTH Aachen offers some of its courses of study in collaboration with other (private) institutions. They are not part of the courses of study under public law, and thus are not governed by legal guidelines, e.g. university placement allocation.  Some have tuition fees and require a period of professional experience.

Information about prerequisites, application processes, the university placement allocation process, and academic content is available from the host institution, to which you are applying.
