Wolfgang Marquardt to Become New Chairman of the Board at Forschungszentrum Jülich

According to a press release by Forschungszentrum Jülich, the research center's Supervisory Board has decided to appoint RWTH Professor Wolfgang Marquardt, currently Chairman of the German Council of Science and Humanities (WR), as the new Chairman of the Board of the Forschungszentrum.

Wolfgang Marquardt, born in Böblingen, Germany, in 1956, has been Professor of Process Systems Engineering at RWTH Aachen since 1993. In 2001, he received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Award from the German Research Foundation, which is considered to be the most important research prize in Germany.

Marquardt has been a member of the Council of Science and Humanities since 2010; in 2011, he was appointed as its Chairman. He is married and has one daughter.

In the case of successful appointment negotiations, Marquardt could take up his office in the summer of 2014, to succeed the current Chairman of the Board of Forschungszentrum Jülich,  Professor Achim Bachem, who will retire in June 2014.
