Women's Rights in Islam Between Revolution and Stagnation
Panel Discussion on Wednesday, January 15, 2014
When at the end of 2010 many people in the Arab world mobilized on the streets and called for political reforms, this also signaled hope for changes in the position of women. This optimism turned out to be premature, as in the fourth year of the so-called Arab Spring, the picture is rather unclear.
At the event, experts will discuss the perspectives for women in Islamic societies and for Muslim women in Germany.
The contributors and panelists are Dr. Markus Gamper from the Institute of Comparative Educational Research and Social Sciences, University of Cologne; Arne Gutsche, Amnesty International; and Professor Susanne Schröter from the Institute of Ethnology, Goethe University Frankfurt. The discussion is moderated by Professor Tanja Paulitz from the Teaching and Research Area Sociology with a Special Focus on Gender and Technology.
- Time and Location: Wednesday, January 15, 2014, 7pm, Lecture Hall Fo5, Kármán Auditorium, RWTH Aachen
