Description

Editing and proofreading skills are vitally important for academic writers. The best scientific ideas and results often become meaningless if they are not effectively and accurately communicated in writing. Thus, effective “soft” skills often translate to real “hard” results for academic writers: completing a Ph.D., or having submissions readily accepted for publication.

Objective

The 2-day practical workshop Editing Strategies for Academic Writers has been specifically designed for writers who want to enhance their own academic texts through editing and proofreading. Working on your own and other participants’ drafts, you will learn and practice strategies that help you edit texts to their full potential. In the process, you will not only become a more proficient editor but also a better writer.

Content

The workshop Editing Strategies for Academic Writers will help you train the following skills:

  • Develop a systemic approach to proofreading, self- and peer-editing

  • Determine frequent errors and eliminate them from your writing

  • Practice revision and proofreading skills using your own and other participants’ writing samples

  • Craft well-structured texts that have a sense of order and direction

  • Write as clearly, concisely and consistently as possible

Please note that this workshop will be taught entirely in English. To participate and benefit the most, you should be able to communicate fluently in English (approximately B2 level or above).
