Fellowships for Innovation in Digital Teaching and Learning

The Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia and the German Stifterverband, a foundation that supports higher education in Germany, have now announced the awardees.

This year, candidates could apply for tandem fellowships for the first time, which meant they could apply in cooperation with a representative from another subject or university.

Starting January 2020, a total of 42 university instructors in Germany will receive up to 100,000 euros from the program to implement their research proposals. Ten instructors at RWTH will receive funding to research their concepts:

• Professor Martin Baumann and PD Dr. med. Peter Isfort from the Institute of Applied Medical Technology: RemotePOL – Wide-Ranging Problem-Oriented Learning: Well Distributed, Digital, Practical, and Practice-Oriented.
• Dr. rer. nat. Thomas Eifert and Bastian Küppers from the IT Center: Inclusive Teaching in Mathematics and Computer Science.
• Martin Lemos, M.A. from the Audiovisual Media Center and Dr. phil. nat. Julia Steitz from the Institute of Laboratory Animal Science: Solution-Oriented Learning With the Help of Video-Based Virtual Reality for Practical Teaching in Biomedicine.
• Dr. rer. Nat. Christian Terboven from the Chair for Computer Science 12 – High Performance Computing and Junior Professor Dr. Lena Oden from the FernUniversität in Hagen: Interactive Collaborative Parallel Programming – IkapP.
• Professor Dr. rer. Nat. Stefan Roth from the Chair of Experimental Physics III B and Professor Dr. rer. Nat. Darius Mottaghy from Aachen University of Applied Sciences: Code-Based Learning: Virtual Notebooks in Basic Courses in the STEM Disciplines.
• Professor Dr. Patrick Becker from the Systematic Theology Research and Teaching Area: Habitus Formation in the Initial Phase of University Studies – Massive Open Online Course in the Curriculum of the Social Sciences.
• Dr.-Ing. Christopher Brandl from the Institute of Industrial Engineering and Ergonomics: Mixed-Reality Learning Environment for the Promotion of Applied Design Competence.
