In 2011 RWTH Aachen Led the Field Nationally in External Funding per Professor
On February 18, 2014, Destatis, the Federal Office of Statistics, published the amount of external funds acquired by German educational and research institutions in 2011.
In 2011, on average, German universities – excluding their medical institutions and faculties – were able to acquire 232300 Euros per professor in external funding. According to Destatis, this is a 5.7 percent increase compared to the previous year.
The amount of funding acquired by other educational institutions, such as Universities of Applied Sciences and Colleges of Art and Music, was significantly lower, with external funds of 25500 Euros and 14200 Euros per professor, respectively.
The most successful universities in obtaining external funding were RWTH Aachen University (approx. 231 million Euros), TU Munich (approx. 213 million Euros), and TU Dresden (approx. 167 million Euros).
In the category „External Funding per Professor,“ with 716900 Euros, RWTH Aachen led the field, followed by the University of Stuttgart (605500 Euros). But also smaller universities were able to achieve excellent results: On average, TU Bergakademie Freiberg obtained 604300 Euros in external funding per professor.
