Dr.-Ing. Thomas Wintgens has been University Professor for Sanitary Engineering and Water Quality Management at RWTH’s Faculty of Civil Engineering since September 2019.


Born in 1973 in Aachen.


1999 Studies at RWTH Aachen University, graduating with a degree in Waste Management and European Mineral Engineering Course from TU Delft, TU Helsinki, and the University of Exeter

Doctorate at RWTH’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering

2014 Habilitation (post-doctoral lecturing qualification) at RWTH’s Faculty of Mechanical Engineering


2005 to 2008 Head of the Water Technology Group at the Chair of Chemical Process Engineering at RWTH
2008 to 2019 Professor and Head of the Environmental and Water Technologies Group at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland; Coordinator of the European FP7 and H2020 projects Saph Pani and AquaNES on natural and technical processes in water and wastewater treatment
