What does that mean?
ECTS are credit points that measure the workload of one's studies. The teacher training Master's encompasses 120 ECTS, which are distributed among both subjects, education studies, the practical semester, DSSZ, and the Master's thesis.

A first recognized university degree, through which the necessary education background for the Master course of study can be proven. The necessary knowledge needed in order for studies to be successful is determined in the respective exam regulations (PO).

Two subjects are also combined in Master's teacher training studies. The combination possibilities for the teacher training subjects are identical with those in the corresponding Bachelor courses of study.
Master's teacher training studies includes not only the two subjects but other elements as well:

- Practical semester
- German for School Students with an Immigration Background (DSSZ)
Subject-Didactic and Practical School Studies
Teaching practice and application in schools are at the focus of studies during the first two semesters. Topic areas for research questions in German lessons that are developed during the preparatory seminar and can be implemented during the practical semester, include: skill orientation; formulating problems and evaluation processes; models of literary conversations in class; media skills; action- and production-oriented process; literary learning (including eras, classic literature, youth and adolescent literature); identity orientation; problems in orthography didactics; designing grammar lessons; didactic concepts based on genre and type of text; creative writing; and argumentation, moderation, and presenting. Other intersections may arise in the form of the module "German for Students with a Migration Background." Possible aspects are: language acquisition processes in the first and second language, diagnosis process for assessing language level and development; programs and concepts for promoting language; fundamentals of intercultural communication.
The technical component (3rd and 4th semester) encompasses three advanced modules, that are distributed among German and General Literary Studies or GAL and Literary and Linguistic Studies or SK, based on one's own focus.
German and General Literary Studies (GAL)
The GAL focus is composed of two advanced modules "Literature in an Interdisciplinary Context" and "Literature and Methodology" and the linguistic and literary studies module "Language Theory and History." There is an exam in every module.
Literary and Linguistic Studies (SK)
The SK focus is based on the advanced modules "Cultural and Medial Aspects of Language" and "Language Theory and History"and the literary science advanced module "Literature in an Interdisciplinary Context." There is an exam in every module.
Elective Possibilities in the Focuses
Both literary science advanced modules offers the possibility to complete the module exam in either a seminar from Medieval German Literature, that is Ältere Deutsche Literatur or ÄDL, or from Modern German Literature, that is Neuere Deutschen Literatur or NDL. Students, who choose the GAL focus, must take a module exam in both ÄDL and NDL. There is also an additional linguistics seminar from the module "Language Theory and History."
First University Degree
An initial university degree is required to begin a Master's teacher training program. The exact technical educational background required is summarized in the examination regulation. The examination board is responsible for determining if admissions requirements have been fulfilled.
In order to be admitted to teaching practice students must provide documentation of skills in two foreign languages. The university entrance qualification typically fulfills this. Students, who did not learn German as a native speaker and acquired their university entrance qualification in German, only need to submit proof of knowledge of one additional language.
Only one foreign language is required for students pursuing a combination with at least one professional subject for teacher training at a vocational school.

Subject-Related Practical Training
Training to become a teacher at vocational school includes relevant practical training lasting twelve months. The subject-related practical training is not part of teacher training studies, meaning the twelve months are not included in the study period. The practical training must be completed before beginning the teaching practice period. The majority of the practical training should be completed before finishing studies.
