2nd Night of 3D Printing

28/01/2020

The 2nd Night of 3D Printing will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2020 in Aachen.

Additive Manufacturing, also referred to as 3D Printing, is technology that enables users easily to create three-dimensional objects according to specification. In cooperation with RWTHextern, on January 30, the RWTH Chair of Digital Additive Production DAP, the Digital Photonic Production Research Campus DPP, and the Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing ACAM will provide a colorful program of guided tours, talks, and presentations.

After a welcome address by Professor Johannes Henrich Schleifenbaum, Chair of Digital Additive Production at RWTH Aachen University, participants will be taken on a guided tour of the various laboratories on site. Additive manufacturing experts will present industrial 3D printing processes, including extreme high-speed laser deposition welding (EHLA) or selective electron beam and selective laser melting (EBM, LPBF).

Furthermore, participants have the opportunity to view examples of industrial applications of 3D printing, such as components of aircraft engines. Another highlight is the recently installed powder atomization facility in the Research Center Digital Photonic Production. Emre Kilic, GKN Sinter Metals Components GmbH, Dr.-Ing. Nils Klingbeil, e.Go Mobile AG, and Dr. Nadine Nottrodt, Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, will report on 3D printing projects from their companies.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm, the program ends at 10pm. Subsequently participants will have the opportunity to get to know each other informal networking reception. Anyone interested is invited to attend. Admission is free of charge, registration by is required.
