RWTH Equal Opportunities Officer Re-Elected
The Senate has re-elected Ulrike Brands-Proharam Gonzalez as Equal Opportunities Officer at RWTH Aachen. Her deputies are Erika Ábrahám und Michaela Weishoff-Houben.
The Equal Opportunities Officer is involved in all University committees and commissions. She contributes to development planning activities and is involved in structural processes as well as staff recruitment and selection. At the same time, she makes sure that promotion and anti-discrimination policies are implemented.
Furthermore, the Equal Opportunities Officer and her team offer members of the University advising on equal opportunities and equal treatment, coordinate continuing education offerings, and campaign for improvement in the compatibility of family, studies, and career: The Family Services Center, which is part of the Equal Opportunities Office, organizes holiday recreation activities for children of university members, assists with finding childcare services, and supports family-centered care activities, among other things. Orientation measures on studies and training at RWTH Aachen are organized for school students, and they are designed to contribute to a flexibilization of traditional roles for men and women.
Dr. Ulrike Brands-Proharam Gonzalez has been Equal Opportunities Officer at RWTH Aachen since November 2011. She studied Romance and German Studies at RWTH and at Université d'Orléans, completed her doctoral degree in Romance Literary Studies, and has worked for several years at the RWTH International Office.
Dr. Michaela Weishoff-Houben, who studied Medicine at the University of Cologne and at RWTH, is a senior physician at the Institute Institute of Hygiene and Environmental Medicine at RWTH Aachen University Hospital.
After completing her studies and doctorate at the University of Kiel, Dr. Erika Ábrahám worked at the University of Freiburg and at Forschungszentrum Jülich; today, she is a junior professor at the Chair of Computer Science 2 and head of the Theory of Hybrid Systems research group at RWTH Aachen.
