2nd International Conference on Fuels from Biomass
The second TMFB International Conference will take place in Aachen, from Monday, June 16 through Wedndesday, June 18, 2014. More than 200 international participants and 40 speakers will attend the conference to present and discuss the latest research results in the field of sustainable fuels.
The conference is hosted by the RWTH Aachen Cluster of Excellence “Tailor-Made Fuels from Biomass ,“ an interdisciplinary research consortium that involves over 30 research groups from the natural and engineering sciences, including Chemistry, Biology, Mechanical Engineering, and Process Engineering. The participating groups are based at RWTH Aachen and affiliated institutions.
As Professor Stefan Pischinger, spokesperson for the Cluster, explained, “Our strategy of interdisciplinary research in close cooperation with a large number of institutes is quite unique in the field of biofuels – we are very proud of it and want to make our conference attendants benefit from it.”
Synthesis, Production, and Combustion of Biofuels
The conference program has a focus on the synthesis, production, and combustion of biofuels. Aside from expert talks and presentations, there will be a poster session by young researchers. International keynote speakers include Wai Cheng, MIT Professor and Director of the Sloan Automotive Laboratory; George Huber, Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and Gabriele Centi, Professor of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Messina and President of the European Research Institute of Catalysis. “We very much look forward to having an intensive interdisciplinary exchange with our international colleagues,” said Dr. Florian Kremer, Magaging Director of the Excellence Cluster.
The TMFB Cluster of Excellence was established in 2007 in the context of the Excellence Initiative by the German federal and state governments, initiated to promote science and research at higher education and research institutions in Germany. The cluster conducts research in two major areas: the first focuses on how to produce fuels from renewable raw materials, the second is concerned with combustion processes for these fuels. The close interaction of both key research areas is a unique selling point of the cluster.
