"The Evolution of MATLAB" – Talk by MATLAB Creator Cleve Moler
On Monday, June 16, 2014 Professor Cleve Moler will give a talk on the topic of "The Evolution of MATLAB." The author of the first version of MATLAB is chairman and chief scientist at MathWorks, one of the leading developers of technical computing software for engineers and scientists in industry, government, and education.
For almost 20 years, Cleve Moler was a professor of mathemathics and computer science at the University of Michigan, Stanford University, and the University of New Mexico.
Moler started to develop MATLAB in the late 1970s in order to provide computational tools for students in linear algebra and numerical analysis classes. MATLAB stands for matrix laboratory, a name that hints at the fact that initially the program was to provide access to software for matrix computation. Today, MATLAB is a high-level language and interactive environment for numerical computation, visualization, and programming.
Professor Moler's talk is part of the Charlemagne Distinguished Lecture Series organized by the doctoral students at the AICES Graduate School at RWTH Aachen.
