SelfAssessments on Tour

15/08/2014

The RWTH SelfAssessments or SAM are going mobile: Schools can now download the new service "SAM on Tour" free of charge. "Our team comes by with all the necessary equipment," says Professor Marold Wosnitza from the Department of Educational Science, serving as the project head. School students can then complete the SelfAssessments under supervision in their usual environment during the school day.

The SelfAssessments are virtual assistants for self-evaluation and are completed online. They serve as an advising aid to prospective students when choosing a course of study. RWTH has a SelfAssessment corresponding to each of its fields of study, excluding medical subjects. The SelfAssessments consist of different questions and exercises and are oriented towards the demands of the first semester of studies. After completion, participants get individual feedback about their strengths and weaknesses with regards to the respective field of study. This gives them an idea of how much their expectations and ideas about studies matches the actual study content.

"SAM on Tour" is targeted towards school students in classes 11 (Q1) and 12 (Q2). Ideally, students should complete the SelfAssessments in the eleventh grade. "This gives them enough time to prepare for a specific course of study or think about alternatives," emphasizes Wosnitza.
