Success Through Dual Education

09/09/2014

To combine theory and practice: this is one of the main characteristics of vocational training in Mathematical-Technical Software Development, MATSE for short. 35 graduates now gladly received their degree certificates in a celebration event hosted by RWTH Aachen, FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences, and the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce, IHK Aachen.

The vocational training of MATSE candidates focuses on topics in mathematics, computer science, and programming. Due to its "dual education" character, the apprentices are at the same time enrolled in the Bachelor’s degree program Scientific Programming offered by FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences. About 50 RWTH Aachen institutes and several companies in the region are involved in the vocational training program.

After graduation, many graduates decide to complete a Master’s course of study at RWTH, FH Aachen, or Maastricht University. Popular choices include the Artificial Intelligence and Operations Research M.Sc. programs. Furthermore, successful candidates are offered job positions at the interface between application-oriented software development and research-oriented academia.
