Former RWTH Chancellor Keßler Passes Away

Jürgen Keßler, Chancellor of RWTH Aachen University between January 1988 and February 2000, passed away on October 16, 2014.

 

Jürgen Keßler was born in Westphalia in 1935. He studied Law in Marburg and completed the first and second state examinations in Frankfurt and Hamm, respectively. Early on, he gained professional experience in university administrations at the University of Münster and, as Head of Human Resources, at the former University of Educational Studies in Dortmund.

As head of the administration of RWTH Aachen, Keßler was responsible for establishing a controlling system, enhancing information technology processes, developing public relations, and introducing an efficient cost accounting system.

In addition to his memberships in various boards at the communal and university levels, Keßler was member of the Senate of Cottbus University. For his dedication in office, he was appointed Honorary Senator of the University of Cottbus in 1995. Furthermore, as part of an EU project, the RWTH Chancellor supported the University of Kiev in establishing its administration.
