A Look Back at Emperor Augustus

The RWTHextern Citizens' Forum and RWTH Institute of History are holding an event series during the 2014/2015 winter semester on the first and most meaningful Roman emperor, Augustus, in acknowledgement of the 2000 year anniversary of his death.

 

The series begins November 14, 2014, with a presentation by Professor Klaus Scherberich during the RWTH Science Night: 2.000 Jahre Augustus – Versuch einer Bilanz. The talk begins at 10:15pm in lecture hall Fo4, Kármán-Auditoriums, Eilfschornsteinstraße 15.

On Tuesday, November 25, 2014, RWTH Professor Klaus Freitag will be speaking on the topic "Rom siegt, Phöbus Apollon ist treu und das Weib erfährt seine Strafe – Augustus und die Schlacht bei Actium."

Aachen art historian, Professor Alexander Markschies will give a talk on January 21, 2015, titled "Antike ohne Ende – Augusteische Kunst als role model."

The series will end on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, with a reading by Jörg Fündling from his book "Das goldene Zeitalter. Wie Augustus Rom neu erfand." All of these presentations will begin at 6:30pm in the Ford Hall of the SuperC, Templergraben 57.

These events are free of charge.

The series' accompanying exhibition "Fahndung nach Augustus –Suche nach den Wurzeln der Euregio“ will be open from November 15, 2014, to January 15, 2015, in Centre Charlemagne.
