RWTH Rector Named President-Elect of CESAER
The Conference of European Schools for Advanced Engineering Education and Research, CESAER for short, has appointed RWTH Rector Ernst Schachtenberg to its Management Committee. Furthermore, on October 17, 2014, at the organization’s 26th Statutory General Assembly, CESAER President Professor Karel Luyben put forward the Board of Director’s proposal to appoint Professor Ernst Schmachtenberg as President-Elect of the association, which was unanimously endorsed by the General Assembly.
Professor Ernst Schmachtenberg
Ernst Schmachtenberg studied Mechanical Engineering with a focus on plastics technology at RWTH Aachen. He completed his doctorate in 1995 at RWTH’s Institute of Plastics Processing, where he headed the “Part Design, Materials Technology, and Fibre-Reinforced Plastics” division. Subsequently he took on leading positions at Süddeutsches Kunststoff-Zentrum (SKZ) and at Bayer AG. He has been Rector of RWTH Aachen University since 2008.
Between 2010 and 2013, Professor Schmachtenberg was President of TU9, an association of nine major German universities of technology. Since 2014, he has been President of the IDEA League, a strategic alliance of leading European universities of technology: Delft University of Technology, ETH Zürich, RWTH Aachen, and Chalmers University of Technology.
