More Dutch Students Choosing RWTH
In recent years, more and more young men and women from the Province of Limburg, the Netherlands, have decided to come to Aachen for the purpose of study.
In 2011, only six students from the Netherlands were enrolled at one of the Aachen universities. This year, 75 young people from the Netherlands started their studies in Aachen. A further increase to about 300 new students per year is expected.
This boost in popularity is a result of the close collaboration between the educational authorities in Limburg and the Aachen universities. RWTH Aachen and the Limburg Offices of Education and Labor have joined forces to improve the overall student experience and remove barriers for students from the Netherlands.
In order to further substantiate the cooperation in the higher education sector between the countries, RWTH and Maastricht University will soon open the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials located on the Brightlands Chemelot Campus in Sittard-Geelen, the Netherlands.
The increase in student numbers is also due to the strong reputation of RWTH, particularly in the engineering subjects. Furthermore, studying in Germany is comparatively inexpensive, compared with the situation in the Netherlands. Also, the good public transport system in the Rhine-Meuse Euroregion makes it possible for students to easily commute between Aachen and their homes in Limburg.
