This year, the Young Researchers Award, an honor conferred by the Excellence Cluster "Integrative Production Technology for High-Wage Countries,” was presented to the interdisciplinary research project “Individualized Production in Tool-based Manufacturing Processes Using Numerical Optimization.”

The project members have developed solutions to reduce the very time- and cost-intensive production of tools with the help of virtual design and process optimization methods.

At the Advances in Production Technology conference in November 2014, Professor Christan Brecher from the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) presented the award to the early-career researchers Dr. Stefanie Elgeti, Roland Siegbert and Markus Frings from the Chair of Computer-based Analysis of Technical Systems, CATS; Frank Schmidt, Uwe Vroomen and Yann Quedeville from the Foundry Institute, GI; and Christian Windeck and Nafi Yesildag from the Institute of Plastics Processing, IKV.

The Young Researchers Award 2014, which is worth 2,000 Euros, is to support young research teams whose activities significantly contribute to advances in integrative production engineering.
