Program Description
RWTH Aachen University is committed to the 3Rs: Reduction, Refinement and Replacement of animal experiments (Russell & Burch, 1959). In order for these principles to be effectively upheld scientists must not only be sensitive and receptive to improvements but also receive outstanding training. The implementation of EU directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes has immediate consequences for scientific personnel, their training needs and the associated job market. To meet both the latest EU-wide regulatory requirements and the demand for highly qualified scientists, RWTH Aachen University provides the executive Master program, M.Sc. Laboratory Animal Science.

Degree Content
This 4 semester, English language, part-time study program is divided into 10 subject modules. A blended learning concept, incorporating e-learning with short attendance blocks, enables participants to receive the highest level of academic training whilst limiting time away from home and work. The program utilizes RWTH Aachen University's modern laboratory facilities and is enhanced by internationally renowned guest lecturers.

Career Prospects
Graduates of the M.Sc. In Laboratory Animal Science program are qualified for various positions in industry and research as well as with authorities that plan, conduct, evaluate or authorize animal experiments. The study course lays the foundations for a career managing laboratory animal facilities, as an animal welfare officer or with the governing authorities.
