A Good Academic Start in Engineering

06/02/2015

A joint project by FH and RWTH Aachen offers orientation and makes starting engineering studies a bit easier.

“A Good Academic Start in Engineering” is a project by FH and RWTH Aachen that makes it possible for prospective students and those who want to transfer to another course of study to enroll at both higher education institutions and participate in classes. Participants can find out for themselves which university and what subject, including electrical engineering, mechanical engieering, aerospace engineering, mechatronics, and civil engieering, best suits them.

The project includes a fundamental program in math, physics, computer science, and an elective program with regular offers from the engineering courses of study involved, as well as a framework program with tutorials and study groups.

The so-called “Semester Zero” helps students find out what course of study fits their needs and suits their abilities and interests. The orientation semester does not count as a regular semester of study. However, examinations passed are recognized if the participant decides to enroll for the corresponding course of study in the upcoming winter semester.

The program is directed at several target groups: students who are gaining their higher education entrance certificate this year and those who have done so last year but went abroad afterwards, as well as vocational school students and regular students who want to transfer to another course of study.

Registration for the program opens on February 10, 2015.

The project is funded by the NRW Ministry of Science and Research.
