RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg and Jae-Hoon Chung, president of Korea Institute of Advancement of Technology, KIAT for short, in Seoul, have signed a memorandum of understanding in Aachen.

The goal is to promote the exchange of scientists and engineers, conduct joint research activities, and improve the exchange of information. KIAT is an organization of the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, and promotes technological cooperations worldwide.

The Korean delegation also visited the RWTH Institute of Textile Technology, with whom joint projects have already been conducted. "We are pleased that the memorandum considerably simplifies the industrial and scientific collaboration," said Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Gries, director of the Institute of Textile Technology. He added: "We are already planning workshops with South Korean textile manufacturers and German mechanical engineers, in order to determine the mutual demands and needs."
