Discussions Across Cultures and Generations: RWTH Alumni Get Together in Beijing


The sixth official RWTH Aachen alumni get together in China took place during a visit to Beijing by a RWTH Aachen delegation, headed by the rector, Professor Ernst Schmachtenberg. Almost 80 guests attended the event, which was organized with the friendly support of the Vereinigung Chinesischer Alumni der RWTH Aachen, VCAA for short, at the University of Science and Technology Beijing, USTB.

There,  Professor Schmachtenberg and Professor Zhang Xinxin, president of USTB, welcomed the participants. Current RWTH Aachen exchange students in Beijing were among the participants, aside from the numerous alumni. Professor Zhang welcomed the guests and spoke about the universities' partnership, which has existed since the seventies. This was particularly noted by Professor's Zhang's predecessors, professors Tianjun Yang and Xu Yinwu, and the RWTH Aachen alumni and honorary guests at the event.

The guests listened with great interest as Professor Schmachtenberg spoke about the current developments at RWTH Aachen and the University's activities and goals in China. Aside from the two university representatives, Julia Kundermann, science attaché of the Germany Embassy Beijing, and Dr. Thomas Schmidt-Dörr, director of the DAAD office in Beijing, also welcomed the guests. The general secretary of the VCAA, Du Shengyong, moderated the evening.
