The Sacred Mountains of Nepal – Lecture at RWTH

06/07/2015

Dr. Damien François, cultural anthropolgist and RWTH alumnus, has gone on 12 expeditions so far to the peaks of the Himalayas. His lecture, based on his book "Die heiligen Berge von Nepal" (The Holy Mountains of Nepal), doesn't just show impressive pictures from his adventurous travels.

Damien François also addresses the clichés about this mountainous region, the indigenous folk, and Tibetan Buddhism. Aside from his passion for trekking and mountain climbing, he aims to share the spiritual aspects of these mountains, the mysterical experiences, and the people's respect for this grandiose nature.

François will also speak about the most recent earthquake in Nepal, which he experienced up close. He has initiated a campaign for donations. He aims to use the money from his book sales to support a Nepalese family he has befriended, whose lodge and livelihood were destroyed by the earthquake.

The lecture, a collaboration between the RWTH alumni team and RWTHextern, begins on Friday, July 10, 2015, at 7pm in the Generali Hall of the SuperC, Templergraben 57.

The event is free of charge and registration is not required.
