The DFG funding atlas is evidence that the Aachen university is on top for funding in the engineering sciences.

The German Research Foundation, DFG for short, published the most current issue of its research atlas on Thursday, September 3, 2015. RWTH Aachen once again received funding from the prominent research sponsor. Over the three years included in the report RWTH obtained a total of 272.5 million Euros for projects.

The engineering sciences at RWTH received a substantial amount of external funding. The DFG provided 143.5 million Euros between 2011 and 2013, which corresponds to ten percent of all the funding it granted in this discipline. The significant margin of more than 50 million Euros ahead of the institution in second place underlines RWTH's top position in the engineering sciences.

The natural sciences at RWTH also received good confirmation of their research work. Compared to the last funding atlas, the natural sciences received over 30 percent more funding, acquiring 40.4 million Euros in DFG funds. This improved their ranking among German universities, moving them from 23rd place to 11th. "This shows how successful our University is in implementing its Institutional Strategy. We will force the strengthening and and expansion of the natural sciences in order to soon be one of the best integrated, indisciplinary, and technical universities in Europe," emphasized Ernst Schmachtenberg, rector of RWTH.
