As part of the Regio.NRW initiative, 44 projects to foster economic development of the regions in North Rhine-Westphalia were now selected for funding. The proposal for a 3D Competence Center for Digital Fabrication, jointly submitted by Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences, Hochschule Rhein-West, and RWTH Aachen University, succeeded in the competition.
At RWTH Aachen’s Fab Lab, operated by the Media Computing Group, about one million Euros in funding will support the research of novel user interfaces for easier 3D design and fabrication in the context of Personal Design and Personal Fabrication.
The focus of the selected projects is on the development of clusters and networks of predominantly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and research institutions which seek to increase efficiency and growth through collaboration. Apart from digitalization, topics in the Regio.NRW program include climate protection, environmental management, resource efficiency, entrepreneurship, innovative commercial space policy, knowledge transfer, and others.
Selected projects receive about 29 million Euros in funding from the European Union and the Federal State.
