Falling Walls Lab Is Coming to Aachen

06/08/2020

Candidates can apply for the virtual preliminary round in the Rhineland until August 11, 2020. The successful candidates from the preliminary round will be able to participate in the scientific competition in Berlin.

The Falling Walls Conference, which took place for the first time in 2009 on the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, aims to tear down walls and transcend borders: those that exist in our heads, in our thoughts, and in our actions. Every year on November 9, a total of 20 leading researchers are invited to Berlin to present their current breakthroughs in science and research. In the run-up to the conference, Falling Walls Labs will be held around the world, with young researchers competing to qualify for the conference in Berlin.

Since RWTH Aachen University is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2020, the Rhineland Lab will be organized from Aachen this year. RWTH, Forschungszentrum Jülich, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, the University of Cologne and the University of Bonn are all involved in the preliminary decision. The Falling Walls Lab in the Rhineland will take place virtually on September 15 from 3pm.

Promoting Outstanding Ideas

The aim of the competition is to promote outstanding ideas and network promising scientists and entrepreneurs from all disciplines who are located all around the world. The participants, also known as labsters, are given the opportunity to present their research, business model, or initiative to a top-class jury from science and industry and the general public in just three minutes.

We are looking for Bachelor's and Master's students, doctoral candidates, postdocs, and junior professors from the research institutions mentioned above. The winner will be awarded the Breakthrough Winner of the Year title in the Emerging Talents category. Together with nine other competitors, the winner will be able to pitch their project on the grand stage of the digital live event Falling Walls Day in front of an audience of industry leaders, decision-makers, investors, and international media representatives.
