Understanding Physics

Cosmologists are scientists who are studying the universe as a whole. In the last 20 years, they have made a wealth of exciting new observations and discoveries which tell us a lot about the 13-billion-year history of our universe.

In his presentation titeld "The Light of the Big Bang," RWTH professor Julien Lesgourges will describe how physicists were able to draw many important conclusions about the universe from these discoveries, explaining observations of the first light of the universe and measurements of the so-called "spectrum of the cosmic microwave background," which can be seen as a fingerprint of the history and composition of the universe.

Professor Lesgourges will explain these observations in an understandable way and summarize the fantastic amount of information that physicists have extracted from them.

The lecture is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 21, at 11am in Lecture theater Fo2, Kármán Auditorium, Eilfschornsteinstraße 15.
