Scholarship Award Ceremony at RWTH
More than 600 RWTH students have been awarded a scholarship for the next funding period.
During a celebratory event in the Coronation Hall of the Aachen City Hall, the particularly high-performing and talented students received the scholarship award certificates. They were handed out by RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg and the chair of the proRWTH funding association, Dr. Gunter Voswinckel. Thanks to the Germany Scholarship, 589 students will be able to study with fewer worries this coming year. RWTH was able to raise more than one million Euros from private donors. This sum is matched by the Federal Ministry of Research. 15 scholarships were awarded for the funding period as Henry Ford Scholarships. "We are able to ideally support and financially assist 604 students with these funds," celebrated Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg.
RWTH Aachen thus remains the largest scholarship provider in Germany. The Germany Scholarship functions according to the matching principle: for every 1,800 Euros RWTH Aachen raises from donors, companies, endowments, and associations for a scholarship, the same amount is donated from public funds. This allows particularly talented students in all subject disciplines to received a monthly stipend of 300 Euros for one year. Scholarships are awarded regardless of one's financial situation and family background. The RWTH Education Fund was founded by the University in the 2009/2010 winter semester together with proRWTH as the University's central scholarship program. It supplements the financial support with offers that network students with their donors.
