At the Institute for Geometry and Applied Mathematics of RWTH Aachen University, scientists are involved in a variety of topics in numerical mathematics ranging from analytic foundations to applications in engineering and natural sciences.

We are currently offering a full PhD/postdoc position associated with the research project "Development of a flexible property-controlled open-die forging process", see https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/424334423. This is part of the
interdisciplinary Priority Programme SPP 2183 "Property-controlled metal forming processes", see https://gepris.dfg.de/gepris/projekt/402694744, funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG).
University degree (Master or equivalent) in mathematics or PhD.
The successful candidate will have strong analytical and computational skills.
Some familiarity, at least on a conceptual level, with Hamilton-Jacobi equations, control and uncertainty quantification will be helpful.
Good programming skills in C/C++ are highly welcome. The primary qualification is however a sincere interest in learning new concepts and skills.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
The main concern of this project is the prediction of the micro structure evolution in a work piece using a stochastic level set formulation.
For this purpose, a stable controller is to be developed and implemented that allows for the quantification of uncertainties.
What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term 2 years.
An extension of 1 year is planned for doctoral students.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of E 13.
