Our Profile

The research interests of the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry and Electrochemistry at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry cover the preparation and characterization of electrofunctional and biofunctional inorganic nanostructures and their applications in energy, catalysis and biomedical research.

This advertised position is settled within the research project "Incubator for Sustainable Electrochemical Value Creation" (iNEW), a cooperation project between FZ Jülich and RWTH Aachen, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFB). This project focusses on "Power-to-X" technologies. The term “Power-to-X” indicates new future electricity conversion, energy storage and reconversion pathways that use surplus electric power. Within this framework we develop new concepts along with catalyst materials for Power-to-Ammonia.

Your Profile

  • You hold an university degree (master's or equivalent) in natural or materials sciences with above average scores and you are a holder of a PhD in natural sciences or material sciences.
  • You are highly motivated to promote scientific work in the dedicated field of Power-to-X.
  • You bring along a high sense of responsibility, organizational skills, strong communication skills, initiative and team spirit.
  • Experience in electrocatalysis fields (e.g. Hydrogen-Evolution-Reaction (HER)) is helpful.
  • Experiences with DRIFTS (diffuse reflectance infrared fourier transform spectroscopy) measurements are helpful but not mandatory.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordination of work flows related to research within the iNEW project and supervision of project progress.
  • Communication with cooperation partners, preparation of results for presentation within project meetings, preparation of project reports, publications and presentations on conferences.
  • Design and electrochemical characterization of new catalysts in the context of Power-to-X.
  • Elaboration of small project proposals for students and supervising students within their research internship, bachelor or master thesis.

What We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 1 year.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
