Our Profile

The research interests of the Chair of Inorganic Chemistry and Electrochemistry at the Institute of Inorganic Chemistry cover the preparation and characterization of electrofunctional and biofunctional inorganic nanostructures and their applications in energy, catalysis biomedical research.

The present job posting is related to our research within the framework of the Collaborative Research Centre “Functional Microgels and Microgel Systems”, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Within this consortium we collaborate with research groups from polymer science, chemical engineering and medicine on the development of novel, highly functional, and responsive microgel systems. The focus of our research group is on DNA-functionalized microgel structures. Highly sophisticated microscopic methods allow us to study the mechanism of uptake and release of guest compounds, e.g. contrast agents or drugs, on these superstructures. Furthermore, we focus at the formation of DNA microgel superstructures involving hybridization of DNA is a key element.

Your Profile

  • You hold a university degree (master or equivalent) in natural or materials sciences with above average scores and a holder of a PhD in natural sciences or material sciences.
  • You are interested in innovative and interdisciplinary topics.
  • You bring along basic experiences within preparation and functionalization of nanoparticles.
  • You bring along basic knowledge of performing electron microscopic measurements.
  • Experiences concerning the application of electron beam lithography are helpful but not mandatory.
  • You are dedicated, responsible, communicative, creative and team-oriented.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independent preparation and coordination of work flows related to your research within the SFB as well as related to the work packages involving the cooperation partners.
  • Preparation of nanoparticle microgel superstructures in cooperation with the project partners within the SFB985 and the support of our laboratory technician.
  • Functionalization and structuring of substrates utilizing electron beam lithography.
  • Investigation of the superstructures applying electron microscopic techniques (REM, TEM, in-situ REM).
  • Elaboration of small project proposals for students and supervising students within their research internship, bachelor or master thesis.
  • Attending seminars and meetings within the SFB and the institute.
  • Preparation and presentation of results within seminars and conferences.
  • Independent preparation of project reports and publications.

What We Offer

The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled by 3/1/2023 and offered for a fixed term of 1 year.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
