Lehrstuhl für Optische Messverfahren für die Energie- und Verfahrenstechnik
The Chair for Optical Diagnostics in Energy, Process and Chemical Engineering (LOM), established in November 2022, belongs to the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FB4). We are a fast-growing team with a strong focus on long-term, multidisciplinary and international collaborations.
At LOM, we develop and apply advanced laser and optical measurement techniques to solve challenging problems in the field of energy, process chemical engineering. By developing the tools necessary to address these problems, LOM directly supports (among other things) the energy transition, sustainable mobility on land, air and sea, and decarbonization of industrial processes. We work closely with a wide range of collaborators from academic and industrial research groups.
- University degree (Master's degree or equivalent) completed with above-average success in the field of mechanical engineering, physics or comparable fields of study
- Very good knowledge of thermodynamics, flow, combustion and process engineering
- If possible, you have in-depth knowledge in the field of laser and optical measurement techniques (e.g. PIV, LIF, Rayleigh and/or Raman scattering spectroscopy)
- You are enthusiastic, like challenges and have a high degree of independence, commitment and initiative
- You have very good communication and teamwork skills
- You are fluent in spoken and written German and English
Your Duties and Responsibilities
As a Research Assistant/Associate (f/m/d) at the LOM, we offer you the opportunity to participate in various innovative R&D projects in the field of "turbulent, reactive and high-temperature flows". Within this framework, you will advance understanding of the reaction mechanisms, flame structure and combustion dynamics of advanced, bio-hydrid and e-fuels at conditions approximating those of an RCCI engine. This will require the development of advanced laser- and optical measurement techniques, and their application in a technically challenging environment.
Your responsibilities will also include the publication of your scientific results through lectures at national and international conferences and publications in high-quality journals. In addition, you will support the teaching activities of the institute by supervising courses and student theses. The activity thus offers a varied spectrum of theoretical, practical and organizational work.
What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed under a regular employment contract.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of two years.
It is intended to extend the contract initial contract period by one year.
The fixed-term employment is possible as it constitutes one of the fixed-term options of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (German Act on Fixed-term Scientific Contracts).
This is a full-time position.
The successful candidate has the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree in this position.
The salary is based on the German public service salary scale (TV-L).
The position corresponds to a pay grade of EG 13 TV-L.
