For decades, the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL at RWTH Aachen University has led pioneering research in production engineering. Our diverse work encompasses fundamental research and industry-tailored projects across six specialized areas. We closely collaborate with manufacturing companies, offering invaluable insights through consulting projects, forging strong industry connections, and opening doors to promising career prospects. Within the Chair of Production Systems, the Department of Factory Planning addresses crucial facets, including factory structure planning, assembly planning, and digital factory planning. The Digital Factory Planning group is committed to revolutionizing manufacturing, digitally designing future factory models. Our vision embraces complete digital factory planning, driven by innovative methods and tools. We aim to drive progress across the entire factory lifecycle, leveraging novel concepts and technologies, including CAD modeling and 3D simulation, along with the integration of cutting-edge technologies like Virtual Reality (VR).
Your role involves contributing to digital factory planning projects with a focus on 3D modelling. Proficiency in CAD programs such as Autodesk Inventor is helpful, and experience in at least one of the following programs is desirable: Autodesk programs, Blender, Unreal Engine. Additionally, you'll be responsible for integrating these models into cutting-edge technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR). As part of our engaged team, you will actively contribute to the development of tools aimed at enhancing the design of digital factories. The requirements for the role are:
- Experience in CAD modelling tools
- Knowledgeable in simulations and 3D modelling with tools like Blender, Unity, and/or Unreal Engine
- Basic programming skills in Python, C++, and/or MATLAB
- Proactive learner with commitment and reliability
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ongoing studies at a university or university of applied sciences

What We Offer
The successful candidate will be employed as a student assistant.
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 6 months.
The option to extend the contract is available.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 7-12 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 12,00 € per hour.
