RWTH Best German University for Minerals & Mining

With confirmation once again from the international sphere RWTH Aachen is once again a top leader in many subjects, according to the QS Rankings by Subject 2016 published on March 22.

 

The ranking is conducted worldwide by QS, Quacquarelli Symonds. The company was founded by Wharton School graduate Quacquarelli, who works in the field of international education and operates offices in London, Paris, Singapore, Shanghai, Boston, Washington D.C., Johannesburg, and Alicante.

The best universities around the world for each subject have been determined annually since 2011 based on the university's reputation and citations, which are evidence of scientific performance. In 2016, RWTH managed to emerge in the ranking of the strongest universities in 22 subjects, ranging from architecture to industrial engineering. For the first time it placed in the fields of linguistics, education, and ecnomics and econometrics. RWTH's result for the first-time ranking of the category minerals and mining was particularly gratifying. It placed 26th in the world. No other German university placed better in this category. Materials science in Aachen also moved up from 29th place to 21st, an outstanding result, which is also its best placement yet.

RWTH Aachen's best ranked subject remains mechanical engineering, which is ranked at 20th in the world. With 36th place Aachen's chemical engineers were also able to defend their ranking among the best universities in the world. RWTH is the leading university in six subjects in the German comparison: chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, minerals and mining, environmental science, and materials science. It also attained third place among German universities for an additional five subjects.

Overall, compared to the initial ranking in 2011, RWTH did not perform worse in any area. In fact, clear progress is visible in ten subjects.
