The Japanese consul general, who has held office in Düsseldorf since November 2015, recently visited RWTH Rector Ernst Schmachtenberg.

The consul general, accompanied by Bundestag representative Dr. Rudolf Henke, learned about the newest developments at the Aachen university, particularly those in the Campus project and collaborations with industry. He demonstrated great interest in RWTH as a leading technical institution.

RWTH's relationship with Keio University in Tokyo/Yokohama reaches back to 1956. Multiple longterm partnerships and exchange programs exist at all levels. Joint efforts include the Keio summer and spring schools and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology's double Master's courses, as well as the SeleCa international graduate school with Osaka University. Nevertheless the number of Japanese exhange students at RWTH remains relatively low. The RWTH rector and the consul general reaffirmed their support of efforts to increase the number of exchange students.
