The center – one of 15 High-Performance Centers of the Fraunhofer Society in Germany –, will conduct research and developments in the areas of energy, mobility, medicine, and biotechnology. The three Fraunhofer Institutes for Production Technology, Laser Technology, and Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology join forces with RWTH Aachen and high-profile partners from industry to develop production systems and value chains under the Industry 4.0 paradigm.

The targeted interconnection of production technology components is to create adaptable systems which facilitate individualized, cost-effective small-batch production of a broad range of components, from the design stage through to recycling.

The overall budget of the Aachen High Performance Center will amount to about 6.5 millione Euros; The state of NRW and industrial partners will each contribute 40%, while the Fraunhofer Society will provide 20% of the budget.

Interested Companies will have the opportunity to participate in the Center at a later stage, in particular to find solutions to concrete questions and problems.
