Three RWTH Scientists Among World’s Most-Cited Researchers

Three scientists from RWTH Aachen University are included in the latest list of Highly Cited Researchers published November 18, 2020.

 

The physicians Fabian Kießling and Twan Lammers, and the biologist Ralph Panstruga are among the most frequently cited researchers worldwide. Kießling is head of the Institute for Experimental Molecular Imaging, Lammers leads the Nanomedicines and Theranostics working group. Both were already listed as Highly Cited Researchers in 2019. Panstruga, head of the Plant Molecular Cell Biology Lab, had already been selected for the list in 2014, 2015, and 2019.

The list also includes two former RWTH professors, Frank Tacke and Henner Hollert. Tacke worked at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen until March 2019 and has now been head of the Department of Hepatology and Gastroenterology at the Charité in Berlin since April 2019. Hollert has been head of the Department of Evolutionary Ecology and Environmental Toxicology at Goethe University Frankfurt since October 2019 and previously headed the Department of Ecosystem Analysis at RWTH.

Serving as an Indicator of the Importance of Publications

Selected for the list of Highly Cited Researchers are those scientists whose papers rank among the top one percent by citations in their field. In research, citations serve as an indicator of a publication’s importance and quality of the work. The more other scientific research papers reference a paper, the higher its visibility and, thus, the author's worldwide recognition.

The list, originally published by the Thomson Reuters media group, has been published by Clarivate Analytics since 2017. The methodology remains unchanged; the number of citations recorded in the core collection of the renowned Web of Science literature database continues to be examined for a period of eleven years.
