RWTH Participates in POLICE Funding Project
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy provides 1.5 million Euros in funding.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy is funding the project "PrOlonged Life Cycle for Electric Vehicles" or POLICE as part of the "Elektro Power II" program. It is providing 1.5 million Euros over the next three years. RWTH's Chair of Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components and the Laboratory for Machine Tools are involved in the research project. The companies StreetScooter GmbH, Futavis GmbH, Stratasys GmbH, and Dekra Automobil GmbH, and the German Aerospace Center are also involved in POLICE.
The focus of the research is to extend the service life of electric vehicles. This can be achieved, for example, through modular updatable automotive software and hardware. This would allow for the high price of electric vehicles to be compensated with lower operating costs and later update possibilities.
