Support for Scholars at Risk: Philipp Schwartz Initiative Starts Ninth Round of Calls

22/12/2020

The Philipp Schwartz Initiative gives universities and research institutions in Germany the opportunity to host at-risk scholars on a full scholarship or with an employment contract lasting 24 months.

In addition, a supporting program promotes the exchange of experiences among interested institutions involving experts from the Scholars at Risk Network, the Scholar Rescue Fund, and the Council for At-Risk Academics.

Applications to host at-risk scholars on a full fellowship or employment contract for 24 months as part of the Philipp Schwartz Initiative are now open until March 5, 2021. Please note that neither the scholars themselves nor the host institutions can apply directly! Applications are to be submitted via the International Office. Therefore, if you have any questions or are interested in hosting at-risk scholars, please contact Cathrin Urbanke.

Successful applications will be selected by the beginning of June 2021. We currently expect that up to 25 grants can be approved.

The initiative is funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and the following foundations: the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung. the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Fritz Thyssen Foundation, the Gerda Henkel Foundation, the Klaus Tschira Stiftung, the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Stifterverband, and the Stiftung Mercator.
