RWTH is 78th in the new Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

For the first time, RWTH Aachen has been ranked among the best 100 universities in the world. The University’s strong performance is highlighted in the new THE ranking published September 21, 2016.

Last year, RWTH Aachen already managed to climb 46 spots, from 156th to 110th; in the 2016-2017 ranking published yesterday, the University is ranked 78th, rising 32 spots from last year.

Among German universities, RWTH has climbed five spots and is now placed 6th.

RWTH Aachen was able to improve its performance along several indicators, in particular in the areas of teaching, research, industry income, and citations. RWTH is particularly strong in the industry income category, achieving 99.4 out of 100 points, which testifies to the outstanding relations between the university and business. The close collaboration with industry is not only beneficial for research, but also for students, who profit from a hands-on, application-oriented education and training.

The annual Times Higher Education list, published since 2004, is among the world's most influential rankings of colleges and universities. In addition to reputation among academics, the ranking is based on performance indicators such as research quality and output, teaching, number of citations, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
