Short-term Childcare

Childcare During Online Events

The Family Services Center is currently offering to organize childcare also for online events, telephone or video conferences, and the like. Babysitters from the Family Services Center's records will provide the childcare in the parents' household.

This offer is aimed at RWTH employees who cannot provide a responsible form of childcare during the online event or similar and whose presence is urgently required for the event.

If necessary, please send an email to the Family Services Center or call +49 241 80 93579 well before the event.

On request the Family Services Center organizes additional childcare during university events as a special service for institutes, central institutions, and other RWTH Aachen institutions. This includes events that take place regularly as well as those that do not, such as conferences, symposia, workshops, or award ceremonies.

We would like to close the childcare gaps that particularly arise during the afternoon, evening, and weekends through additional events. If you would like to use these childcare services, please email the four weeks before the event.

  • The Family Services Center deals with the registration process with the parents and clarifies the details of the childcare.
  • The child will be cared for in the Parent-Child Room, Templergraben 64 or in another suitable room in direct proximity to the event.
  • Child and age appropriate equipment for the room can be borrowed from the Family Services Center free of charge.
  • Babysitters from the Family Services Center's records, who all have childcare experience, will provide the childcare during the event.

For childcare lasting more than four hours, the hosting institution assumes provision of meals for the children and childcare providers in agreement with the Family Services Center. If there is no suitable room free of charge available within the university, the hosting institution bears the costs for renting and utilizing suitable rooms.

Babysitting Network

Are you looking for a babysitter who can look after your child for a few hours or on a more regular basis?

If you are an RWTH employee or a parent studying at the University looking for a private carer for your children, you can use the Family Services Center’s babysitting network. You can find babysitters to look after children of all ages during the week or on the weekend.

You can send a request to our large network of experienced babysitters via our babysitting mailing list.

If you have any queries about this network, we will be happy to provide you with further details over the phone or in person. We can also give you information on insurance coverage, supervision responsibilities, and salary suggestions for private childcare.

In case of a longer-term loss of regular childcare, for example due to holiday of the caregiver, students with a child (or children) have the opportunity to apply to the Family Services Center for a grant to cover expenses related to hourly childcare.
