Description

Safeguarding the rules of good scientific practice is an elementary, if not the most fundamental prerequisite to carry out scientific projects. Therefore, all scientists have to follow those rules.

Doctoral researchers working on their doctoral projects need to address several topics in regard to good scientific practice, e.g. documentation, self-criticism, ethical considerations and plagiarism.

Objective

  • Encourage problem solving

Methods

  • the workshop is based on the DFG recommendations on Good Scientific Practice and local guidelines

  • the workshop will pick up existing problems and work on solutions

  • a mixture of „ex-cathedra“ teaching, jointed and group phases will be used

  • the results of the workshop will be documented and circulated

Doctoral candidates, who are registered in the Doctoral Academy.

IMPORTANT!

According to some doctoral regulations of the faculties, the completion of a course to ensure good scientific practice at RWTH is mandatory for the application for admission to the doctoral examination. The Doctoral Academy offers various formats for this purpose:

  1. RWTH online course "Scientific Integrity" (self-study course with subsequent examination).

  2. Workshop "Gute Wissenschaftliche Praxis" / "Good Scientific Practice" (1-day, 1 ½-day or 2-day; without examination).

Please contact the doctoral office of your faculty for information and, if necessary, consult with your supervisor regarding the required course content and scope.
