RWTH Explains the 2016 Nobel Prize Decisions

What are the special achievements of this year's nobel prize winners? On December 10, the prizes will be awarded in Stockholm.

 

One week before the official award ceremony, RWTH scientists will offer lectures on this year's topics and recipients in the categories of physics, chemistry and medicine, putting everything in easy to understand terms.

Professor Fabian Hassler from the Institute for Theoretical Physics will give a lecture on the topic of physics entitled "Of vortexes and of hairy balls that cannot be combed flat." It will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 11am in lecture hall Fo2 of Kármán-Auditorium, Eilfschornsteinstraße 15.

The lecture dealing with the nobel prize for contributions in chemistry entitled "Molecular machines – are chemical scientists now turning into mechanical engineers?" will be given by Professor Markus Albrecht of the Organic Chemistry Group. It will take place on Monday, December 5, 2016, at 6:30pm at Generali hall, SuperC building, Templergraben 57.

Dr, Pavel Strnad of Medical Clinic III, RWTH Aachen University Hospital, will hold the lecture on the topic of medicine: "Autophagy – eternal life through recycling?" He will speak on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at 6:30pm at lecture hall I in the RWTH main building, Templergraben 55.

Admission to all events is free of charge. Registration is not required.
