Doubting your Choice? Find Your Career Path!

Information event provides advice for students who are thinking about terminating their studies.

 

At times, students who are in the midst of a course of study develop doubts about their choice of degree and whether it makes sense to continue their studies. Thus they are faced with the decision whether to try to complete their degree program, transfer to another program, or terminate their studies altogether.

On Thursday, January 12, 2017, the information event “Doubting Your Course Choice? Find Your Career Path!” seeks to find answers to the above questions. The event, which is jointly hosted by the City of Aachen, RWTH Aachen, FH Aachen, Forschungszentrum Jülich, and the Aachen Employment Agency, takes place between 2 and 4pm in the Generali Hall, Super C, Templergraben 57.

The event is targeted at those who consider terminating their studies at one of the Aachen universities and provides an overview of on alternative educational options. Students attending the event have the chance to talk to and get advice from representatives from the student advice centers at RWTH Aachen and FH Aachen, the Employment Agency Aachen, the Vocational Training Center at RWTH Aachen, as well as the SWITCH and RESET programs.

A Good Academic Start in Engineering

The joint project between FH Aachen and RWTH Aachen offers beginning students – or those who want to transfer to another degree program – the opportunity to try out engineering studies and find out which academic institution or course best suits their needs. Thus they can register for the 2017 summer semester and visit regular classes at both universities. This so-called "zeroth semester" is not regarded as the first semester of a degree course, so failed exams won't count towards the final grade. If students pass the exams, however, they can get credit for them at either RWTH or FH, depending on where they decide to continue their studies.

SWITCH and RESET

SWITCH, a program established in 2011, and RESET, initiated by the Chamber of Commerce Aachen, IHK, support students who quit their course of study in applying for a dual vocational training position. The aim of these initiatives is to shorten the duration of vocational training programs for former students.
