A Good Academic Start in Engineering 2017

18/01/2017

The joint project between FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences and RWTH Aachen is now in its third round. Registration for the first phase is open until February 5, 2017.

“A Good Academic Start in Engineering” is a project between FH and RWTH Aachen that offers prospective students the possibility to register for the 2017 summer semester at both universities simultaneously and to attend regular classes. Participants can find out for themselves which university and what subject, including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechatronics, and civil engineering, best suits them.

The project includes a fundamental program in math, physics, computer science, and an elective program with regular offers from the engineering courses of study involved, as well as a framework program with tutorials and study groups.

The so called "Semester 0" aims to orient and prepare students. It is not counted towards students' typical length of study, meaning it does not count as the first core semester. Failed attempts are also not recorded during this semester. However, exams that students pass can be applied to a student's later studies at FH or RWTH.

Furthermore, participants have the opportunity to take part in the "Pro 8 Week" and develop solutions to real-world business problems.

The project is targeted at school students who are currently completing their Abitur (or university entrance qualification) and those who completed it last year. Other target groups are students in vocational training programs, master craftsmen and craftswomen, and students who want to transfer to another course of study.

Registration for the first phase is open until February 5, 2017. The program receives funding from the Federal Ministry for Education and Research BMBF.
