Two RWTH graduates have received the 2020 Schöck Award for Innovation in Civil Engineering, which honors outstanding Master's theses.

RWTH researchers Henrik Becks and Matthias Kalus have received the Schöck Award for their outstanding Master's theses in civil engineering. Since mid-2020, the doctoral candidates have been working at the RWTH Institute of Structural Concrete headed by Professor Josef Hegger. This year, four Master's students were honored with the award.

Henrick Becks's thesis was concerned with the "Influence of normal forces on the shear force carrying capacity of carbon concrete beams." Becks completed his Master's degree in May 2020 with distinction. Moreover, he was awarded a place on the Dean's List for his academic achievements.

Matthias Kalus's thesis is titled "Implementation of a two-degree-of-freedom kinematic punching shear model for point-supported steel-reinforced concrete slabs. Kalus, who received both a Germany Scholarship and an Erasmus Scholarship during his studies, completed his Master's degree in May 2020 with distinction. He was awarded a place on the Dean's List for his academic achievements and received the Josef Pirlet Award to support his study abroad experience.
